Frontdesk

Dates

January 2005 — December 2005

Principal Investigator

Albert Chow

Problem

Many dormitories are plagued by inefficient and ineffective front desk systems which can result in missing DVDs, lost or stolen packages, and a number of other problems.

Goal

The goal of FrontDesk is to provide a tool for dormitories across the MIT campus, which will facilitate otherwise tedious desk tasks, allowing students to make better use of their dorm communities.

Overview

FrontDesk is developing a Web-based comprehensive system for the front reception desk at dormitories. The system will be easy to maintain, but more importantly, it will be easy to customize. It will allow individual dorms to implement their own policies regarding the management of the front desk. Residents will be able to quickly and easily search through all the community resources their dorm offers, such as movies and equipment. Furthermore, the system will be able to provide real-time data on the availability of these resources.
