DSpace: Project Details: OCW Course as Served in DSpace
Back to main DSpace project page

OpenCourseWare Course Home Page, from DSpace

Once archived to DSpace, the contents of the original MIT OCW course website are now able to be rendered from the digital archive itself, in addition to the archive's various capabilities to further disseminate the content through other channels.

One important project finding regarding this content should be noted, as work for future development: OCW's multimedia content presents a special challenge to digital archiving in this manner, and for the present will remain on its network of distributed Internet servers.

More robust Web Services will need to be developed, more "hybrid" content packaging approaches (files and pointers to files combined) will need to be adopted, and more policy and economic decisions regarding the long term curation of these materials will need to be taken, prior to their being archived in the same manner along with the rest of the content.
